Communications and Development Manager - Imperial College London - London

Applications are invited to join the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology located at the St Mary’s campus, Paddington. The department is based within a five star research institute equipped with the latest technologies and facilities within Imperial College London’s School of Public Health.


The post holder will join the team of The Schistosomiasis Control Initiative (SCI), a research group based within the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology. It works to improve the health and development of the world’s poorest populations by eliminating the poverty sustaining and life-threatening effects of schistosomiasis (bilharzia) and intestinal worms (hookworm, whipworm and roundworm).


This role will be focused on servicing the reporting and communication requirements of these organisations, ensuring that they receive the required information from SCI in the most efficient and effective manner possible.


In addition, the post holder will be required to develop a communication strategy for other key stakeholders that will help the Initiative deliver on its objective of carrying out 300 million treatments against Schistosomiasis by 2020. The post holder will be required to quickly understand the scientific basis of SCI’s work and to form a good understanding of its current and potential donor base in order to develop an effective communication strategy appropriate for SCI’s target audiences.


The successful applicant will ideally be a graduate with a qualification in international development. You will have experience of working in media communications for a number of years and an understanding of the complexity of neglected tropical disease programmes in low income countries.


The post is full time for a fixed-term of 1 year in the first instance.
