English Graduate roles September 2016 Camden Town




We are providing Graduates with the opportunity to have the required skills and experience ahead of applying for a PAID Teacher training programme such as Schools Direct or Teach First.

If you wish to become a teacher in the future becoming a Learning Support Assistant or Teaching Assistant is a positive stepping stone to gaining invaluable knowledge of the role of an educator within a school. As Learning Support Assistant in a school you will develop a range of skills and strategies from behaviour management strategies to planning and assessment.

Prospero Teaching has been working with a large, mixed, secondary school in Camden who is seeking a selection of Graduates for Graduate Teaching Assistant and Learning Support Assistant roles starting in September 2016.


As a Learning Support Assistant you will be committed to the education and wellbeing of the whole person and the development of young adults of competence, conscience and compassion who will be of service in the community. Teaching is good in a wide range of subjects, with some outstanding practice, resulting in enjoyable, rapid and sustained learning.


You will be a recent graduate with a degree in Maths, Science, English or a Humanities ideally with an Upper Secondary or First in a degree.


As a Learning Support Assistant you will be required to use your subject knowledge to engage students in class or on a 1:1 basis or run group sessions to improve knowledge of the subject in line with the curriculum.
The Role


You will be a recent graduate with a degree in Maths, Science, English or a Humanities ideally with an Upper Secondary or First in a degree.


The Learning support assistants will be supported by strong Heads of Departments and the Special Needs Coordinator of the school who is strong and very knowledgeable. Learning Support Assistants will be trained and supported in managing the needs of individual students building the and in something called differentiation and incorporating Special Needs students in a lesson plan as there are often mixed ability classes.


As a Learning Support Assistant you will be required to use your subject knowledge to engage students in class or on a 1:1 basis or run group sessions to improve knowledge of the subject in line with the curriculum.


The role of a learning support assistant is varied and a very rewarding role and below are a few duties required of a learning support assistant:


*Working in class supporting the teacher with students
*Building rapport and understanding student’s levels
*Data analysis
*Building your knowledge of the National Curriculum
*To plan and prepare lessons and teaching materials appropriate to the needs of pupils.
*Working alongside the Special Needs Coordinator and teachers to contribute to the preparation, evaluation and monitoring of schemes of work as directed.
*To support lower ability students with subject knowledge in classes across agreed key stages.
*To support SEN students with subject knowledge in classes across agreed key stages.
*To support higher ability students with subject knowledge in classes across agreed key stages.
*To ensure the needs of individual pupils are met through clear structures for lessons and sequences of lessons, to accommodate the range of learning styles and abilities of the pupils.
*To maintain good order and discipline amongst pupils so that teaching objectives can be met, in line with the college Behaviour Policy, including duties and supervision outside the classroom.
*To participate in CPD, share learning with colleagues and incorporate in your teaching.


If you are not located in Camden the Special Needs department works with schools across London and would be able secure you a role within your desired location or borough.


The role requires someone to commit to working 5 days a week, for 1 year.
