Food Service Assistant II - Campus Operations: Western University
Hospitality Services consists of five distinct divisions – Campus Operations, Conference Services, Residence Dining, Great Hall Catering and Vending Services. We have over 600 employees working in the various divisions. We service over 23,000 customers per day in 20 campus operations providing our guests with a wide variety of options and choices including many of your favourite franchises.
The Food Service Assistant II is a lead hand to the Food Service Assistants and is responsible for training new staff members and orientating new members to the established procedures, routine, and serving/food preparation techniques. The Food Service Assistant II is responsible for operation of the unit in the absence of management or a supervisor, and also may be responsible for the effective opening or closing of their food service unit. The incumbent is responsible for serving food and beverages, food preparation (i.e. making sandwiches), accepting payment (i.e. cashier position), cleaning and sanitizing various work areas.
This is a frontline position responsible for providing exceptional customer service, however additional duties include restocking of product and assisting in other areas (i.e. kitchen, dish-room). The Food Service Assistant II also provides assistance for special functions (i.e. Banquets, BBQs, etc.), specialized sandwich and salad preparation, preparing short order breakfast or lunch, receiving and storing deliveries and performing table/bar service as required.
Qualifications
Education:
– High School Diploma (OSSD)
Experience:
– 3 years’ previous customer service experience preferably in the food service industry
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
– Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
– Exceptional customer service skills with a positive attitude and genuine customer service orientation
– Reputation for maintaining a professional and friendly demeanor
– Ability to provide a safe environment for our guests
– Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
– Ability to perform physically demanding work (i.e. Standing for long periods of time, lifting arm to serve customers over counter) and physical capability of pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying up to 20 kg.
– Demonstrated oral and written communication skills with an ability to take direction
– Natural inclination to respond courteously to instruction, questions and comments
– Ability to establish and build healthy working relations and partnerships with customers, peers and supervisors
– Demonstrated dependability and cooperative nature
