Managing Surveyor - L&Q - London E15

As part of our on-going expansion we are looking to appoint a Managing Surveyor, reporting to the Assistant Director – Commercial.

L&Q are looking for an enthusiastic Managing Surveyor to oversee the surveying support of the commercial and financial interests of Quadrant Construction across a number of mixed tenure housing projects (including pre and post contract duties).


Main responsibilities will include:


Lead, manage and develop direct and indirect reports


Ensure all commercial reporting procedures are adhered to


Act as a single point of contact for all commercial, legal, financial and administrative issues with internal and external stakeholders


Provide regular commercial insight on the performance of organisations contracted to projects, enabling the project to make informed decisions about contract variation


Manage stakeholder relationships to ensure a constructive relationship is maintained throughout the lifecycle of all projects


Ensure commercial / contractual arrangements comply with all applicable legislative, regulatory and corporate standards


Develop, implement and continually review procedure and practice to ensure the effective commercial management of contracts


Forecast and monitor the key performance indicators


Communicate to senior management on business plan, current state and forecast position


Identify risk and implement risk management system


You will be an excellent communicator with the skills and experience to work collaboratively with stakeholders including sub- contractors, clients and residents. You will have extensive knowledge and experience of the commercial management of high-value contracts including the ability to manage high-value contractual disputes to successful conclusion . You will be able to demonstrate strong project management skills with experience in procurement, contract and financial management and be able to manage the commercial aspects of complex and long term contracts of significant value. You will also be able to show that you are able to lead, motivate and manage a large team.


It is essential that you have previous experience working for a contractor or developer in the housing sector and can demonstrate a proven track record in a similar role.

Purpose


Managing the surveying support to secure the commercial and financial interests of Quadrant Construction across a number of mixed tenure housing projects (including pre and post contract duties)


Key Responsibilities / Deliverables:

Contribute to the team’s achievement of its objectives, whilst operating in line with the L&Q values and delivering excellent customer service by ensuring procurement of subcontractors and materials to programme and budget.


Ensure activities controlled meet business objectives and key performance indicators. Ensure projects meet targets (cost/quality/time/cash), manage payments in accordance with contract conditions.


Liaise with other departments to advise and inform on cost and contract issues


Support, manage and train commercial staff as necessary


Submit monthly valuations and providing and updating cashflow forecasts. Managing subcontract accounts including payments and final account


Ensure adherence to procedures and maintain a focus on Health and Safety


Provide monthly cost forecast information and all interim management reports. Propose, manage and control budgets for activities measuring predicted financial outcomes against budget and ensuring that all costs expended and predicted are properly accounted for.


Maintain industry learning keeping up to date with commercial matters that may impact on performance of the business

A proven track record as a senior quantity surveyor /managing surveyor or commercial manager within a house developer or construction business

Academic & professional qualifications


ONC/HNC level in Quantity Surveying – MRICS preferable
